BEAMINSTER FREEMASONS, SPECIAL EVENING

A unique occasion took place on Tuesday the 9th May at the regular meeting of Beaminster Manor Lodge when two events were celebrated that spanned a number of generations.
Firstly, was the initiation of Mr Sebastian Phillips, a trainee arboriculturalist, now the youngest Mason in Dorset at the age of 18, by his father Shane Phillips. The current Worshipful Master, Brian Palmer, had vacated the Chair to allow the father to conduct that special ceremony for his son.
At the other end of the scale, this was followed by a presentation to a sprightly 97 year-old, Geoffrey Martin, who was, that evening, celebrating 50 years as a member of the Lodge. To mark the occasion, the Worshipful Master was pleased to present Geoffrey with a commemorative certificate from the Lodge and to offer him the hearty congratulations of all the members. Although Geoffrey was no longer able to attend the Lodge on a regular basis, he had lost none of his sense of humour and said he was looking forward to attending in due course to celebrate his 100th birthday – although he might pass on having another 50 years in Freemasonry.
The brethren retired and had a celebratory dinner with both the youngest and oldest member of Beaminster's Lodge of Freemasons, which has been meeting in the town for 135 years.
