Pilot Officer Allan Russell Carrick remembered.

This weeks Installation meeting at the Lodge of Unity was a very special event. The name of the of the new Carrick Bar was announced, 77 years to the day after we lost the only Mason in 190 years of Wareham Masonry to have made the supreme sacrifice in conflict.

On 27 February 1940 Pilot Sergeant Allan Russell Carrick, aged 21, was Initiated into the Lodge of Unity. In April 1940 he was promoted to Pilot Officer and stationed at RAF Leuchars in Scotland; he, together with his crew, made the supreme sacrifice on 25 October 1940, aged just 22.

His name is on the Wareham War Memorial but no one had made the connection; he is also remembered on the Commonwealth War Grave Runnymede Memorial .

Once Bill McCumisky of Unity discovered his great loss, the Lodge, agreed to commemorate him by naming the bar in his honour.

We will remember them.
