Dorset Sportsmen's Pool, Snooker & Darts Competiton

On Sunday, 14th January the Dorset Sportsmen's Lodge (DSL) hosted the inaugural Snooker, Pool and Darts competition held at the Greenbaize Snooker Club in Wallisdown. The day raised over £500 for charity.

Organised by Pat Green and ably assisted on the day by Mike Parkes registration started at 0900 as did the immediate consumption of copious amounts of tea, coffee and bacon.

Following a welcome by Pat Green and Nigel House (Worshipful Master of DSL) the practice sessions begun and continued up until 1030 when the competition phase got underway.

The service and welcome we received from the staff at the Greenbaize Snooker Club was as good as we could have hoped. With fast, courteous service, parking and equipment available for anyone who required it, Greenbaize will definitely be at the top of the list for any other local competitions organised.

The Richard Merritt Snooker Trophy

Following practice, the snooker competition got underway with 12 matches leading to the final of this epic knockout battle.

The snooker was the longest competition of the day with some competitors competing in other sports after being knocked out.

The final, between Pat Green and John Truman, was intense with John Truman potting his way to victory to be the first person to lift the Richard Merritt Snooker Trophy.

The Nigel Leonard Pool Cup

Fast paced, hotly contested and fully booked, the pool competition got underway at 1030 and went through 14 matches, leading to the final between Ian Steele and Dan Halfhide.

The winner, Ian, promised to come back next year and defend his title.

The Greenbaize has two pool tables well spaced to allow both tables to be used at the same time.

The Stephen James Darts Shield

This was the quickest completion of the day. Practice started as soon as the doors opened and play continued throughout the day long after the competition had finished.

Greenbaize put up two new dartboards for our first ever Dorset Province darts competition.

The competition went through 8 fast rounds before the final between Andy Conduit and Dan Halfhide commenced, with Andy winning following consistent and accurate darts.
