MCF Grant £100,000 to Blind Veterans UK

Thanks to a grant of £100,000 donated by Freemasons, Blind Veterans UK have turned a disused building in Llandudno into a new Life Skills Centre for young veterans at risk of homelessness.

The Countess of Wessex, a patron of Blind Veterans UK, officially opened the centre which will support veterans by providing them with the tools they need to become emotionally, physically and financially equipped.

The grant funded the refurbishment of a disused building at their Llandudno Rehabilitation and Training Centre into five fully accessible, supported residential units for young veterans at risk of homelessness, or living in unsuitable accommodation. The centre will provide in-depth and tailored training that includes counselling, financial planning and career advice.

Blind Veterans UK provides invaluable support for ex-service men and women who have lost their sight. This is achieved through rehabilitation services, the provision of specialist equipment and training, respite care and by facilitating independence both in the home and in the wider world.

The charity operates Rehabilitation and Training Centres in Brighton, Llandudno and Sheffield and maintains a network of regional Welfare Officers across the UK to ensure that blind veterans across the country can access the support they need.
