Blackmore Vale Lodge from Sturminster Newton were recently delighted to donate to the Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust; a local charity raising funds for specialist equipment and nurse training.
Andrew Drake and his family set up the charity when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Juvenile Polyposis. As this type of cancer is genetic the rest of Andrews' family were checked and his sister and father were found to have the same condition. Andrew's sister and father have been successfully treated but, in 2015 Andrew was told that his cancer was terminal and passed away in September of that year.
Andrew's love for life and loyalty for his friends, family and his desire to increase awareness and support toward cancer were rewarded when ITV's Alan Titchmarsh, his team and some of Andrews friends completely transformed and redesigned his garden. This meant that Andrew's wife Rachel and son Lucas could enjoy the time they had left together, comfortably, with family and friends. Andrew loved the new garden but in his normal selfless way was happy Rachel and Lucas had something to enjoy and be happy in.
Andrew's full story can be found on their website at http://www.ducksdrakescancertrust.org.uk/
The photograph shows Carol Eavis a trustee of the charity, Annette Drake (Andrew's Mum) and Becky Drake (Andrew's Sister) receiving a cheque for £205 from the lodge.
