Dorset Masonic Bikers invade Normandy!

Warm sunny weather marked the start of the DMB trip to Normandy to witness the D-Day Celebrations. A calm voyage across the English Channel was followed by a short ride to our Gîtes located 10 miles north of Utah Beach.

Day 1 – Saint Mère Eglise

American marching bands paraded through the picturesque town then a parachute team demonstrated supreme skill and accuracy by landing in the small square in front of the church to rapturous applause. A spectacular midnight firework display rounded off our first day in style!

Day 2 – Carentan

A conveniently located restaurant proved an excellent vantage point to watch a procession of WW2 military vehicles carrying men in uniforms and ladies dressed in period costumes. After lunch we visited 'Camp Arizona', a reconstruction of a US military camp complete with tents, trenches and period equipment. Home for an excellent BBQ accompanied by a few libations!

Day 3 – Utah Beach

We visited the impressive museum at Utah Beach in the morning then rode to the pretty fishing town of Saint Vaast la Hougue for lunch. In the afternoon we took the picturesque route to Barfleur and along the northern coast to Cherbourg to catch the evening ferry home.

Epilogue

Good food, great company and splendid weather made the weekend a truly successful event. Here's my favourite motorcycle artefact discovered in a Bikers Cafe, a set of handlebars that serve draft lager!
