Malachi loves his new Swivel Car Seat

Malachi who lives in Creekmoor, Poole is four and suffers with Mitochondrial DNA Depletion, which has left him using a wheelchair. His genetic condition leaves him without the necessary energy to maintain the health of his heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and brain. This can eventually lead to organ failure.

An appeal for support was received recently by Matt Devereux the Provincial Grand Charity Steward.

Matt immediately made contact with the family and mother Holly explained that Malachi's condition means he must spend around three days a week in hospital for blood tests and seeing neurologists, cardiologists and physiotherapists and he also has a language delay meaning.

Malachi must travel in a proper child car seat but his weight makes it difficult for his mother to lift him into the seat. A special swivel car seat allowing him to be simply lifted and secured from the side had become a vital need.

Provincial Grand Master RWBro Richard Merritt agreed that a suitable seat should be provided by the Provincial Grand Master's Discretionary Fund. This was immediately ordered and delivered to the family by Provincial Grand Charity Steward Matt Devereux.

Malachi's mother expressed her grateful thanks to the Provincial Grand Lodge of Dorset for such a rapid response and as you can see from the photo Malachi himself is suitably impressed.
