Dorset's Universities Scheme Lodge Celebrate Christmas in style!

As is customary, wives, partners friends and widows of Brethren were invited to the Christmas Meeting Festive Dinner of the London Haven Lodge, where the traditional highlight of the evening is an annual visit from the Bournemouth Gilbert and Sullivan Operatic Society (GaSP) Carol Singers.

The Carol Singers have visited Masonic Lodges for nearly thirty years to raise money specifically for Macmillan Caring Locally, the Macmillan Cancer Unit at Christchurch Hospital where patients in South East Dorset and South West Hampshire receive Specialist Palliative Care.

Rick Szarowicz, Master of the Lodge, was delighted to present a cheque to the Carol Singers who, since starting in 1975, have collected over £75,000 for the Macmillan Caring Locally charity. The new-build music centre in the Macmillan Cancer Unit at Christchurch has been named after Jean Hancock, organiser of the GaSP Carol Singers, as a permanent memorial to her inspirational leadership that helped to generate continuous support for the Macmillan Caring Locally charity over a period that spanned more than forty years.

London Haven Lodge is the UGLE Universities Scheme Lodge of Dorset. Among those who attended was Chris Hare, the first Dorset undergraduate to become a Freemason, accompanied by Chris Wilmoth, who is in his first year of study at Bournemouth University. The Universities Scheme was formed to forge links between Lodges and students who seek to become involved in Freemasonry
