Happy Birthday Glenys

On Sunday 21st of July 2019 Purbeck Lodge Members decorated the Masonic Hall at Branksome with flowers, bunting, pot plants, balloons, making sandwiches, cakes, quiches and scones, to celebrate the 100th birthday of Glenys Constandinos a widow of Purbeck Lodge for 48 years !

Glenys was accompanied by eight other Purbeck Lodge widows, and in addition also attending was her 'baby' brother Alby [95 years old]!!
All enjoyed live entertainment, cream teas, cakes and champagne. A good time had by all.

Glenys Constandinos is the widow of Bro Andrew Constandinos, a past member of Purbeck Lodge, who was born on the 10th of June 1917 in the village of Lymbia in Cyprus.
At the age of 15 he boarded a cargo boat in Limassol Cyprus bound for England spending two weeks at sea with no food apart from the cargo of fresh lemons ??.

A few years later whilst working in Swansea Wales he met Glenys. Shortly after, they were married and went on to have 5 children.
In the 1950s they were living in Wimborne where they owned Andes Cafe,[opposite the railway station next to the market].

Tragically in 1963 one of their sons was killed in a road accident on Gravel Hill, and just six weeks later their second son was also killed in another road accident in exactly the same location.

Brother Andrew never got over the tragic loss of his two sons, Louie and Johnny, and on the 8th of August 1971 whilst staying with his brother-in-law in London had a massive heart attack and died, aged just 54 years.

Today there are at least six members of Purbeck Lodge, which would be not so if it were not for Brother Andrew Constandinos.
