Dorset Freemason completes the Coast to Coast Rat Race

Wimborne Freemason Adam Carrier completed the Coast to Coast Rat Race, which is a 105 mile multi discipline event (run/bike/kayak) stretching from Nairn on the East coast of Scotland to the Isle of Glencoe in the West coast of Scotland. In the process Adam raised sponsorship for his Masonic Lodge's chosen local charity, the Isabel Baker Foundation.

The Dorset Provincial Communications Team were able to track and publish Adam's progress throughout the challenge. On completion and after a few days' rest, Adam was interviewed by the team;

'Wow that was a tough one! Full frontal head wind the entire way. I even had to pedal on the downhills in classic Scottish horizontal rain. Then horrendous leg cramps throughout and a nights supposed rest in the world's smallest tent.'

Adam had fully intended to complete the challenge in 12 hours, most people take over 24 hours.

However, Adam explained, 'Although I didn't achieve what I had set out to do due to injury. I did manage to drag myself out of my tent the next morning and finish the challenge, with an overall time of 11 hours and 5 minutes. On reflection, in failing to complete the challenge in one go as initially intended, I believe I learned my first true lesson about Freemasonry. The support, kind words and brotherly love I received throughout from many brethren was exceptional and made me feel as if every single one of you was there with me. I'm so proud to call myself a Freemason. The challenge also raised an amazing sum of money for the Isabel Baker Foundation. I would like to thank everybody who donated and supported me. Watch this space for the next challenge!'

Adam from the Lodge of St Cuthberga 622 explained to the Communications Team that he wore his smart watch throughout the challenge and every tweet and WhatsApp message lifted him.

Graham Smith, the Lodge Charity Steward is now completing the necessary calculations but with a potential match by Dorset Freemasonry Adam's challenge has raised over £3,000 for a great local charity.
